Biology lesson 3:
– Dr Sayan Bhattacharyya
The Mitochondria are composed of units called cristae where cellular respiration takes place.
Ribosomes are composed of 80S in Eukaryotic cells and 70S in Prokaryotes.
S: Svedberg’s unit.
Cytoplasm is generally acidic due to ribosomal and tRNA. Nucleus on the other hand, is basic due to histone proteins.
Now we should study the basic differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
Prokaryotes do not have a definite nucleolus. Eukaryotes have. Eukaryotes have mitochondria whereas prokaryotes have mesosomes..
Many cells are organized to form a tissue, like epithelial tissue, connective tissue etc. Many tissues join together to form a organ, like liver, heart, kidney etc. In the body the different organs serve different functions, like liver for digestion and food processing and enzymatic degradation of drugs, lungs for respiration, kidney for excretion etc.
Immune functions of the human body are carried out by Reticuloendothelial system, composed of Liver, spleen, Bone marrow and lymph nodes. The Thymus also plays an important role in
Immune function.
